Current Moment
I’ve woken up from the dream that was summer. It went by so quickly and was filled with so much. A new leaf is starting to emerge on my monstera plant which is actually two plants gifted to me by friends. I wonder if it will be the last of the season. The year of fenestration - of changes, growth, and coming into a new form. I’ve changed jobs, got married, and was a part of two artist residencies - which all feel like big moves for me. The sun is shining today, after a few days of heavy rain here in Seattle, and it’s lighting up the changing leaves of the Japanese maple in the backyard. I’m welcoming all the shifts that are here and on their way. A new routine is forming and that is comforting.
The Fellow Ship Artist Residency
I’ve been trying to figure out how to talk about this time in a public way since it was a privately transformative experience for me, and I am inclined to keep it that way. What I can and will share are some of the poems and art I made during my time on Guemes Island in the colorful airstream. I thought a lot about binaries and non-binaries, identity, mythology, and stories, and the ways in which nature transforms and persists regardless of how we as humans try to organize it.
I brought my print studio into the woods and found myself focusing on learning how to do kitchen lithography (in which I had some success), suminagashi marbling, and trace and reductive monotypes.
I am wildly grateful for my time at this residency and for Clyde to create and share this space with folks. Thank you thank you thank you.
Bloedel Reserve Community Creative Residency
I am still in the midst of this artist residency. In the case that I haven’t talked your ear off about it - I have access from dawn to dusk to this beautifully complex semi-public space called Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island. I am one of five Community Creatives and my residency runs May through the end of October. I’ve gone a lot and been able to bring some friends and family with me, which has been a gift of time and space. I’ve taken A LOT of photographs - and am slowly making my way through editing them and turning them into printed paintings. Here are some pieces in progress. I’ve got a lot more in the works~
I’ll keep sharing as I go! Thank you for your eyes and time!
