A quilt my great great great grandma made - all stitched by hand!!
Dreamy California
Last week I was in sunny beautiful California, my home state. I had the privilege to spend time with my grandparents, my Mom and Dad, two of the Void Boys, and their lovely families, and my Uncle and his lovely family. My heart is full after quality time with all these amazing relations. I am grateful to have loved ones all over the place, and I get to deepen bonds with them throughout my hopefully long life.
My Grandma shared stories with me of her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. I come from a long line of resilient women who made a lot of things using the magic of their hands. I hope to continue this, and it affirms my choice to pursue art making.
Here is an excerpt from a poem I wrote about this time:
Are you waking up too
Under the light of the moon
Opening the treasure chest
I wonder what that paper said
Hand-written Czech
They keep their hopes
At the foot of their bed
I wonder what that paper said
I wonder what that paper said
…
A Walk In The Woods
On Friday I have work in a group show at the Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN). This show features work from all four of the Community Creatives of the Bloedel Reserve Artist Residency Program. I would love to see you there if you are in the Seattle Area!
And so I wonder, what comes next?
